About us

A warm welcome always awaited you when you visited The Botanic Nursery.

Now the time has come for us to retire and put away our propagating fingers and enjoy more pursuits and visiting nurseries and gardens ourselves.

We hold the National Collection of Digitalis for Plant Heritage and will continue to curate the collection as a hobby in our retirement, seed can be purchased from the web site and we hope to exhibit the collection, on a much smaller scale with Plant Heritage at Chelsea Flower Show in 2025.

Everything we did revolved around gardening in harmony with the wildlife that shares our site. Many visitors remarked on the peaceful atmosphere of the nursery and garden, also the number and variety of birds that can be heard.

We leave behind us a mature garden full of interesting plants and many rarities seldom seen these days, we are delighted that the new tennant of the nursery is equally passionate about the garden and will in the fulness of time be opening it again.

Terry has over 50 years’ expertise in all areas of gardening and is a passionate propagator. Mary grew up helping her father in his market garden and creating beautiful floral arrangements, a talent that helped win many medals at the flower show exhibits.

We exhibited at many major flower shows and received our first Royal Horticultural Society Gold medal in June 1999 for an exhibit of Foxgloves at the summer show. In between then and now we have gained over 30 medals. We were very proud to receive The Queens Jubilee Gold Medal in 2012 at Chelsea Flower Show. Our last large exhibit in May 2024 also received a Gold Medal.

Winning medals is not done by just one person and we are grateful for all the team who help us.
